HSIEH Long-Kwang, born in Tainan, studied composition and music theory from HSU Tsang-Houei, CHEN Mao-Shuen, and LU Yen. After graduating from the music department of National Taiwan Normal University, he pursued further composition studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna (Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien). After returning to Taiwan, he dedicated himself to music pedagogy and music theory. In recent years he has become interested in researching twentieth-century modern music. Beginning in 2001 he attended the masterclasses held by the German composer Karlheinz Stockhausen (1928–2007), which inspired him to research and interpret Stockhausen’s compositions. HSIEH’s compositional style is diverse and rich. Many of his compositions have been heard in top-rank concert halls, such as the National Concert Hall in Taipei.
