高慈美,戰後初期臺灣最重要的鋼琴教授之一,也是臺灣第一位鋼琴女教授,從事音樂教育工作長達半世紀。她出身於長老教會臺南高家,留學日本。1931年,進入帝國音樂學校,師事名鋼琴教育家笈田光吉。期間多次返臺積極參與臺返鄉的音樂會演出。留學返國後,她嫁到另一個基督教家族臺北大稻裎李家,並先後任教於省立師範學院(今臺灣師範大學)、靜修女中、政工幹校(今政治作戰學校)音樂科教師。音樂教學生涯之外,教會生活和公益活動為其生活重心。
GAO Ci-Mei is an important figure in piano pedagogy of the post-war period and was the very first female professor of piano performance in Taiwan. She dedicated herself to music education for about a half-century. GAO was born into a Presbyterian family in Tainan and pursued her education in Japan. She entered the program of the Imperial School of Music in Tokyo, studying under the instruction of Kokichi Oida. During this period, she returned to Taiwan many times to participate in concerts and performances. After completing her studies, GAO returned to Taiwan and married into a Christian family, the Lees, in Dadaocheng, Taipei. She also taught music at Taiwan Provincial Teachers College (now known as National Taiwan Normal University), Jingxiu Girls’ Junior High School, and Political Staff School (now known as Political Warfare Cadres Academy). In addition to teaching music, GAO dedicated herself to the church and charity activities.
