錢南章 (1948生),作曲家,出生於中國江蘇省常熟縣,1949年隨家人來臺。畢業於中國文化學院,主修鋼琴;後留學德國慕尼黑音樂學院,主修理論作曲。1978年返國後,曾任教於中國文化學院,並於1989年專任於國立藝術學院音樂系,直至2013年退休。曾經獲得五次金曲獎非流行音樂類的最佳作曲人獎,更得到國家文藝獎的肯定。代表作品有:合唱管弦樂《馬蘭姑娘》(1995)、《佛教涅槃曲》(2001)、合唱組曲《我在飛翔》(1999)、交響曲《那魯灣》(2006)等。
CHIEN Nan-Chang (born 1948) is a composer born in Jiangsu, China who came to Taiwan with his family in 1949. Chien graduated from the Chinese Culture Academy (the present-day Chinese Culture University), majoring in piano, and later studied at the Munich School of Music and Drama, majoring in composition. After returning to Taiwan in 1978, Chien taught at his alma mater, and later on became a full-time faculty member at the Department of Music at the National Institute of the Arts (the present-day Taipei National University of the Arts) until his retirement in 2013. He is a four-time recipient of the Golden Melody Award for Traditional Arts and Music in the Best Composer category, as well as having received the National Cultural and Arts Award. Chien’s key works include The Maiden of Malan for Orchestra and Chorus (1995), Buddhist Requiem (2001), the chorus suite, I am Flying (1999) and Symphony No.2 Nanuwan for solo voices and orchestra (2006).
