Ssa-reng II
The old verbal music note for Kayakeum (Korean Zitar) "Ssa-reng" and an outdated refrain of ancient poems from a Korean dynasty (11th century) are the basic phonetic material of this piece. The first piece shows its extremely stretching phonetic process from 's' to '-ng' of "Ssa-reng", where the whole vocal and instrumental structure was congruent with the onomatopoeic sound of the word. The second piece tracks the uplifting emotional process and eventually allows to discern a certain joyous rhythm while chanting repeatedly "ui, due o reong shyeong" as my old Folks used to mean.
